Hawkeyes Open Season at Indiana

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa opens the 2024-25 season in an exhibition against the Hoosiers at Lake Lemon on Friday and Saturday.

The Hawkeyes will take three varsity eight boats and two novice eight boats for the weekend. On Friday they will race two 3500-meter pieces at a controlled rating in a head race style, with even boats. Saturday will see four by 1500-meter pieces in side-by-side racing against Indiana boats.

The Hawkeyes return nine seniors, seven juniors, 20 sophomores, and add 38 freshmen. All-Big Ten honorees Karire Evans (Sportsmanship Award) returns to race in her junior season and Emma Dabinett (First Team) joins the coaching staff as a graduate assistant. The young Hawkeyes look to use the fall to continue to improve their technique and push their limits.

Quoting Head Coach Jeff Garbutt
“We are excited to head to Bloomington this weekend. Our main goal this weekend is to get everyone to race with the same intensity as training. With our young team, we want to see growth and improvement in every round and carry that over week by week.”
