SCOUTING THE HOOSIERS
– The Hoosiers sit at 6-4-1 on the season including 1-4-0 in Big Ten conference play. The Hoosiers have outscored their opponents 27-10 on the season.
– Indiana is led by freshman forward Layla Sirdah. Sirdah has seven goals on the year to go along with six assists. Sirdah’s 20 points rank 20th in the country and third amongst Big Ten players.
– Sirdah has 28 shots on the season with 18 on goal (.643).
– Senior goalkeeper Jamie Gerstenberg is the only goalkeeper to register minutes for the Hoosiers this season. Gerstenberg has allowed 10 goals on the season averaging .91 goals allowed per game.
– Gertsenberg has 32 saves with a save percentage of .762. She has posted four shutouts on the season.
– Indiana is outshooting their opponents 176-87 on the season and has had 70 corner kicks while their opponents have had 40.
– Iowa will be the third ranked opponent the Hoosiers have faced this season. Indiana faced No. 20 Ohio State and No. 25 USC. The Hoosiers lost to the Buckeyes 0-2 and the Trojans 0-2.
SERIES HISTORY – INDIANA
The Hawkeyes lead the all-time series against Indiana 12-11-1. The Hawkeyes have won 12 of the last 15 matchups against Indiana including three of the last four. The last time either team scored over two goals in this matchup was in 2013 when Iowa defeated the Hoosiers, 3-0.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
– Bush, Enneking and Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were ranked eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Enneking is a United Soccer Coaches national preseason honoree and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List
– Millie Greer (#39) and midfielder Sofia Bush (#87) were ranked top-100 freshmen at the end of the season by Top Drawer Soccer.
– Iowa opened the season ranked No. 25 to start the year; that was the first preseason ranking in program history. The Hawkeyes earned their first postseason ranking last fall, checking in at No. 24 to finish the year. Iowa peaked at No. 14 in the national polls last season.
– The Hawkeyes have won eight of their last nine games. The one game in that stretch that the Hawkeyes didn’t win over the seven-game period was a tie at No. 17 Ohio State, 1-1.
– Iowa is currently averaging 16.00 shots per game which ranks fourth amongst Big Ten teams. Penn. The Hawkeye’s then average 8.58 shots on goal per game which ranks 17th in the country and first amongst Big Ten teams.
– Iowa’s nine wins are the most wins without a loss to start a season since the Hawkeyes started 9-0 in the 2019 season. Iowa is one of six teams in the country that hasn’t lost a game all season.
– Enneking, Johnston and graduate-student Rielee Fetty were voted team captains.
LAST WEEK
The No. 18 Hawkeyes opened the week hosting No. 15 Penn State at home in the programs first home Big Ten matchup in which both teams were ranked. The Nittany Lions got off to a fast start scoring a goal in the opening minute of the game. The Hawkeyes responded quickly with a goal from sophomore Sofia Bush in the fourth minute assisted by senior Meike Ingles. Maya Hansen then gave the Hawkeyes the lead in the 30th minute with her fourth goal of the season. The goal was assisted by Rielee Fetty and Meike Ingles. The Hawkeyes didn’t allow a goal the rest of the way and won, 2-1. The Hawkeyes held the Nittany Lions to just two shots on the game. Iowa then hit the road and traveled to Northwestern on Sunday. The first 45 minutes was a defensive battle leading to a scoreless first half from both teams. Northwestern then took the lead in the 58th minute off a penalty kick. Iowa responded with a goal from senior Elle Otto in the 66th minute to tie the game, assisted by Lauren Geczik. The goal was Otto’s first of the season. Geczik stunned the Wildcats in the 87th minute with an Olympic Goal. The goal was off a corner kick and went into the net without any player touching it. Iowa won, 2-1 and moved into a tie for first place in the Big Ten.
DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
Iowa has allowed just six goals so far this season.
– Iowa held a six-game shutout streak earlier this season, a program record for consecutive shutouts.
– The Hawkeyes saves percentage of .833 is third amongst Big Ten teams.
– The Iowa defense has allowed two goals in the second half all season. Both goals came off penalty kicks.
A KEEPER!
Goalkeeper Macy Enneking set a program record for shutouts last season (12.5), tying for fifth nationally.
– The Hilliard, Ohio, native has started all five years at Iowa, anchoring the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of conference tournament championships.
– Enneking is the first Hawkeye named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first Iowa player featured on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List.
-Enneking has 27.5 career shutouts, passing former Hawkeye Hannah Clark (2012-15), to become the school’s all-time leader in shutouts. Enneking needs five victories to tie the all-time school’s record for career victories, currently being held by former Hawkeye Claire Graves (2016-19).
– Enneking became the first Hawkeye to win Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a career and also the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
– Enneking’s save percentage of .867 is 27th amongst all goalies in the country and ranks fourth amongst Big Ten goalies.
SHARING THE WEALTH
11 Hawkeyes have goals in the 2024 season. Berit Parten (6), Meike Inges (4), Sofia Bush (3), Maya Hansen (4), Kenzie Roling (1), Lauren Geczik (1), Berkley Binggeli (2), Elle Otto (1), Rielee Fetty (1), Maggie Johnston (1), and Millie Greer (1).
– The Hawkeyes have scored 25 goals on the season to go along with 20 assists. 10 different Hawkeyes have at least one assist on the season. Ingles, Bush, Roling, and Geczik all lead the team with three assists a piece.
– 14 different Hawkeyes have all put multiple shots on goal this season. Parten leads the team with 18, followed by Otto with 15, and Ingles with 10.
B1G IN THE POLLS
Five different Big Ten teams made an appearance in this weeks United Soccer Coaches Poll.
– Michigan State (No. 5), Ohio State (No. 7), Iowa (No. 11), Penn State (No. 19), USC (No. 21).
– The ACC has the most teams ranked in the top-25 with eight teams. The Big Ten and SEC are tied for the second most with five teams featured in the rankings.
– The Hawkeyes tied with No. 7 Ohio State on the road and defeated No. 19 Penn State at home.
– The Hawkeyes do not face No. 5 Michigan State or No. 21 USC in the regular season this year.

A SPECIAL SEASON
- The Hawkeyes rose to No. 11 in the United Soccer Coaches Poll, No. 14 in the Top Drawer Soccer Poll, and No. 7 in the NCAA’s RPI ranking system.
– No. 11 is the highest ranking by any national poll in school history. The previous high was last season when the Hawkeyes were ranked No. 14 by Top Drawer Soccer.
– The Hawkeyes currently sit in a four-way tie for first place in the Big Ten. The lowest Big Ten regular season finish in program history came in 1999 when the Hawkeyes finished third. The Hawkeyes have never won the Big Ten regular season. The last time the Hawkeyes finished top four in the conference was 2021.
FRESHMAN SENSATION
– Berit Parten leads Iowa in goals (6), points (12), shots (33), and shots on goal (18).
– Parten was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week earlier this season. Parten was the 12th Hawkeye to be named Freshman of the Week and the first Hawkeye to win the award since Kenzie Roling in 2021.
– NCAA.com deemed Parten as a most impactful freshman in the 2024 women’s soccer season so far. Parten was just one of six players in the country to be named and one of two players to be named in the Big Ten.
2 FOR THE MONEY
Iowa’s record is 52-2-3 in its last 57 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017. The Hawkeyes are 9-0 this year in multi-goal games.
90 TRACKER
Rielee Fetty, Eva Pattison, Miah Schueller, Millie Greer, and Maggie Johnston all registered 90 minutes in the 2-1 victory over the Nittany Lions. Pattison and Greer were the two Hawkeye position players to play 90 minutes against Northwestern.
UP NEXT
The Hawkeyes play host to Wisconsin on Oct. 10th at Iowa Soccer Complex. The game is set to kickoff at 7:00 p.m. (CT). Iowa then travels to Piscataway, N.J. where they take on Rutgers. Both matches will be streamed live on B1G+.
