IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Makayla Hughbanks was named the Big Ten Diver of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
Hughbanks, a senior from Bettendorf, Iowa, claimed titles in the one-meter and three-meter dives on Oct. 4 against UNI. In her season debut, Hughbanks scored 289.73 points off the one-meter board before tallying 305.25 points to win the three-meter dive.
It is the third time in her career that Hughbanks has earned the honor, previously winning in December of 2022 and 2023. She is Iowa’s first honoree of a weekly Big Ten award since junior Scarlet Martin and sophomore Olivia Swalley took home conference awards last January.
Hughbanks holds the program’s fifth-best score off the three-meter board (356.93) and ranks eighth in the one-meter dive (312.60).
Iowa returns to the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center on Oct. 18, hosting Nebraska in its home opener at 4 p.m. (CT). The contest against the Huskers is the Hawkeyes’ annual Pink Out dual.
