IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s soccer freshman, Berit Parten, was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Hawkeyes went undefeated last week picking up wins against No. 24 Washington and Oregon. The Hawkeyes defeated No. 24 Washington, 1-0 before tying their season high in goals where they beat Oregon, 4-0.
Parten scored in the 35th minute against the Huskies. That goal would go on to be the game winner, Parten’s third game winning goal of the season. Parten leads Iowa with seven goals on the season. Parten then registered two assists in the victory over Oregon. It was Parten’s first multiple assist game of her career as she now has three assists on the season.
This is the second time Parten has been named Big Ten Freshman of the week, also winning the award the first week of September. Parten became the first Hawkeye since Kenzie Roling in 2021 to be named Big Ten Freshman of the week. Parten is just the third Hawkeye to ever win the award two times. Cloe Lacasee won the award in back-to-back weeks in 2011. Hannah Clark also won the award in back-to-back weeks in 2012.
Parten leads Iowa in goals (7), shots (43), and shots on goal (21). Parten also leads Iowa in game winning goals with three.
Up next for the Hawkeyes is their regular season finale at Minnesota on Oct. 27th. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m. (CT) and the match will be streamed live on B1G+ (subscription required).
