Hawkeyes Travel to Minnesota for Regular Season Finale

THIS WEEK
The No. 11 University of Iowa soccer team is set to travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to take on Minnesota on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. (CT) at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The game is the regular season finale for both teams.

SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
– Minnesota sits at 11-3-3 on the season and 5-3-2 in Big Ten conference play. Minnesota sits in a tie for seventh place in the conference with Penn State and Ohio State.
– Minnesota is led by Khyah Harper with 17 goals on the season. Harper’s 17 goals on the season leads the entire country. Harper is averaging a goal per game.
– Harper has 87 shots on the season and has put 42 of them on goal (.483). Harper has six game winning goals on the season to go along with three hat tricks. Harper’s six game winning goals on the year rank second in the country.
– Harper leads the country in points per game averaging 2.29 leading the country with 39 points.
– Minnesota is led by Kalal Paige in the assist column with nine assists on the season. Paige’s nine assist on the season ranks tied for fifth in the nation.
– Goalkeeper Sarah Martin has played all 1530 minutes for the Golden Gophers this season. Martin has allowed 18 goals on the season for a goals allowed average of 1.06.
– Martin has 47 saves on the season for a save percentage of .723. Martin has posted six shutouts on the season.
– Minnesota is outscoring opponents 21-10 on the second half this season, outshooting them 129 to 82 in the second half.
– The Golden Gophers are 1-1-1 on the season against ranked opponents.

SERIES HISTORY – MINNESOTA
The Hawkeyes trail the Golden Gophers in the all-time series 7-15-5. The first meeting between the two programs came on Sept. 28, 1997. Last season the match ended in a scoreless draw.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
– Bush, Enneking and Greer were named Big Ten Players to Watch. The Hawkeyes were ranked eighth in the Big Ten Preseason Poll. Enneking is a United Soccer Coaches national preseason honoree and was named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List
– Millie Greer (#39) and midfielder Sofia Bush (#87) were ranked top-100 freshmen at the end of the season by Top Drawer Soccer.
– Macy Enneking, Maggie Johnston and graduate-student Rielee Fetty were voted team captains.
– Macy Enneking, Reilee Fetty, and Sofia Bush were named mid-season top 100 players by Top Drawer Soccer. Bush was No. 17, Enneking No. 59, and Fetty No. 68.
– The Hawkeyes are ranked No. 11 by the United Soccer Coaches Poll, No. 14 by Top Drawer Soccer, No. 10 on the NCAA RPI, and were named the No. 6 overall seed in the NCAA D1 Women’s Soccer Committee’s mid-season rankings. The No. 6 overall ranking would put Iowa as a two seed in the tournament.
– A two seed would be the highest seed in program history. The Hawkeyes have made four NCAA tournaments in program history (2013, 2019, 2020, 2023). Iowa is looking to receive back-to-back tournament bids for the first time in school history.
– The Hawkeyes have two NCAA tournament victories in school history with the most recent coming last season when they defeated Bucknell at home, 2-0. The Hawkeyes have not made it past the Round of 32.

LAST WEEK
The Hawkeyes went undefeated last week picking up wins against No. 24 Washington and Oregon. Freshman Berit Parten scored her seventh goal of the season in the 35th minute against the Huskies to give Iowa a 1-0 advantage. The goal would go on to be the game winning goal, Parten’s third game winning goal of the season. Enneking had three saves for the Hawkeyes in the victory. Iowa then hosted Oregon in the team’s last regular season home game. The Hawkeyes got off to a quick start with a goal from Rielee Fetty in the 17th minute. Freshman Caleigh Collard scored her first goal of her career in the 34th minute to give Iowa a 2-0 advantage at the halftime break. Sofia Bush added a goal in the 53rd minute to push Iowa’s lead to 3-0. Delaney Holtey then added her first goal of her career in the 83rd minute to make the game 4-0 that would go on to be the final. The four goals tie a season high for goals scored in a game. Enneking had three saves for the Hawkeyes.

DEFENSE WINS CHAMPIONSHIPS
– Iowa held a six-game shutout earlier this season, which was a program record for consecutive shutouts. The Hawkeyes are now on a three-game shutout streak with two coming against ranked opponents (No. 15 Rutgers and No. 24 Washington). Iowa’s shutout percentage of .588 ranks 18th in the country and second in the Big Ten.
– Iowa has allowed just eight goals so far this season. The current record for least goals allowed in a season is 16 in 2020. The Hawkeyes goals against averages sit at .471 which ranks eighth in the country and trails only UCLA in the Big Ten.
– Iowa has posted 10 shutouts this season. The program record for most shutouts in a season is 12 set by Macy Enneking in 2023.

A KEEPER!
Macy Enneking has started all five years at Iowa, anchoring the team to two NCAA Tournament appearances and a pair of conference tournament championships.
– Enneking is the first Hawkeye named to the Mac Hermann Trophy Watch List and the first Iowa player featured on the United Soccer Coaches Players to Watch List.
-Enneking has 31.5 career shutouts, passing former Hawkeye Hannah Clark (2012-15), to become the school’s all-time leader in shutouts.
– Enneking is the all-time leader in career victories as a goalkeeper in school history. Enneking has 28.5 career victories.
– Enneking became the first Hawkeye to win Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week three times in a career and the first Hawkeye to win the award in back-to-back weeks.
– Enneking has 9.5 shutouts on the season which ranks third in the single season record books. Enneking currently holds the number one spot on the record book for most shutouts in a season when she had 12 last season. Enneking needs one shutout to move to second in the single season records and 2.5 to tie her previous record of 12.
– Enneking’s 12.5 victories this season also ranks fourth in the single season record book. Hannah Clark currently leads with 15 victories in 2013.

A SPECIAL SEASON
– The Hawkeyes are in third place the Big Ten. The lowest Big Ten regular season finish in program history came in 2019 when the Hawkeyes finished third. The Hawkeyes have never won the Big Ten regular season. The last time the Hawkeyes finished top four in the conference was 2021.
– The Hawkeyes No. 9 ranking earlier this season was the highest ranking in program history.
– At 13-1-3 the Hawkeyes are off to the best start in program history. The Hawkeyes record for most victories in a season came in 2013 and 2019 when Iowa won 15 games.
– The Hawkeyes currently have four wins against ranked opponents this season which is a program record. The previous record was three in 2013 and 2023. Prior to Coach DiIanni’s arrival in 2014 Iowa had a total of 9 wins against ranked opponents. In DiIanni’s tenure they have 13.

SHARING THE WEALTH
– 13 Hawkeyes have scored goals in the 2024 season. Berit Parten (7), Maya Hansen (5), Meike Ingles (5), Sofia Bush (5), Berkely Binggeli (2), Maggie Johnston (2), Kenzie Roling, Lauren Geczik, Elle Otto, Rielee Fetty, Millie Greer, Delaney Holtey, and Caliegh Collard all have one goal this season. Of the 34 goals scored this season, 16 have come from newcomers.
– 13 different Hawkeyes have assists this season. Meike Ingles leads the team with five. Kenzie Roling has four while Sofia Bush, Elle Otto, and Lauren Geczik all have three. Berit Parten and Rielee Fetty have two while six other Hawkeyes have one.
– Among power four conferences, Iowa is second in shot accuracy. The Hawkeyes only trail Arkansas.

FRESHMAN SENSATION
– Berit Parten was named a mid-season top 100 freshman by Top Drawer Soccer. Parten was ranked No. 26 on the list. Parten leads Iowa in goals (7), shots (43), shots on goal (21), and game winning goals (3).
– Parten was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week this week after her game winning goal against No. 24 Washington and her two assists against Oregon.
– Parten also won the award the first week of September. Parten was the 12th Hawkeye to be named Freshman of the Week and the first Hawkeye to win the award since Kenzie Roling in 2021.
– Parten joins Cloe Lacasee (2011) and Hannah Clark (2012) as the only Hawkeye to win the award twice.
– Parten is one of two Big Ten freshman to win the award twice this season (Shaela Bradley, Rutgers).

2 FOR THE MONEY
Iowa’s record is 54-2-3 in its last 59 games when scoring two goals or more, which dates back to October of 2017. The Hawkeyes are 11-0 this year in multi-goal games.

90 TRACKER
Rielee Fetty, Eva Pattison, Miah Schueller, Millie Greer, and Maggie Johnston registered 90 minutes against Washington. No Hawkeye played 90 minutes against Oregon.

UP NEXT
The Big Ten regular season comes to an end Sunday where the Hawkeyes will learn their opponent in the Big Ten Tournament. The Big Ten Tournament kicks off on Oct. 31st in Minneapolis, Minn.
