Iowa Heads to Hurricane Invitational for Fall Finale

THIS WEEK
The University of Iowa women’s golf will close out its fall season at the Hurricane Invitational in Coral Gables, Florida, on Oct. 28-29. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the Biltmore Golf Course (par 71, 6,175 yards) with 7:30 a.m. (CT) shotgun starts scheduled for each day.

THE LINEUP
Iowa’s lineup will include junior Riley Lewis, sophomore Maura Peters, senior Paula Miranda, sophomore Ximena Benites and junior Shannyn Vogler.

THE FIELD
The 11-team field includes: East Michigan (146), Florida Atlantic (205), Florida Gulf Coast (43), Florida International (107), Iowa (124), Miami (Fla.) (52), Nebraska (185), North Florida (115), South Alabama (103), Stetson (138) and Toledo (231). (Team rankings in parenthesis.)

THE COURSE
The Biltmore Golf Course hosts the final qualifier of the South Florida Junior Orange Bowl International Youth Golf Championship and is home to the No. 1 Jim McLean Golf School in America. Designed by Donald Ross in 1925, Biltmore is a challenging par 71, 6,700-yard layout in the heart of the Sunshine State of Coral Gables, Florida.

HOME VICTORY
Iowa’s first home tournament since 2018 resulted in the Hawkeyes hoisting the team trophy at the Diane Thomason Invitational. The team fired a 54-hole total of 906 to win by six shots over Wisconsin at Finkbine Golf Course. Iowa fired an even par 288 as a team in the first round – its best round of the year – and had five players finish among the top 20 on the individual leaderboard in the tournament.

– The victory was the first for the program since 2021 at the UNI Invitational.

OF NOTE…
● Senior Paula Miranda has led or tied for the team lead in all three fall tournaments, where she has posted a team-best 74.44 scoring average over nine rounds. Miranda tied for second at the Diane Thomason Invitational with an eight-over par 222.
● Miranda has had her score count in each of the nine rounds, while sophomores Ximena Benites and Maura Peters have had eight of their nine rounds count.
● Peters carded a career-low round of 69 (-3) at the Diane Thomason Invitational.
● Miranda (t2nd), Benites (t16th) and Peters (t16th) all notched their best career finishes at the Diane Thomason Invitational.

The Hawkeyes will open the spring season Jan. 31-Feb. 1 at the Collegiate Invitational in Guadalajara, Mexico.
