TIRANA, Albania – Senior Macey Kilty (65kg) and redshirt sophomore Kylie Welker (72 kg) both captured 2024 Senior World Championship bronze medals in Albania on Wednesday.
Kilty defeated Valeriia Dondupova Suvorova in the bronze medal match. After falling behind, 5-0, she utilized a takedown into a leg lace to take the lead at the end of the first period, 8-5. Kilty didn’t waste any time in the second as she scored another eight points in 52 seconds to secure the victory by superiority, 16-5.
Welker defeated Alexandra Anghel of Romania on her way to the bronze medal. She led, 3-0, at the break after a takedown and shot clock point. In the second period Welker added two with a go-behind takedown and was able to hold off Anghel to secure the win, 5-2.
