Hawkeyes Fall to Michigan to Close Regular Season

IOWA CITY, IA – The 16th-ranked University of Iowa field hockey team closed out its home slate with a 3-0 loss to eighth-ranked Michigan on Friday evening at Grant Field.

Michigan got on the board in the first quarter after taking advantage of an Iowa turnover. The Hawkeyes and Wolverines played a scoreless second period.

The Iowa defense and goalkeeper Mia Magnotta were busy in the third quarter, as Michigan received nine penalty corners, attempted 16 shots, and scored one goal. Magnotta recorded six saves in the third period and seven total.

The Wolverines converted on a penalty corner in the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 3-0. Michigan attempted 23 shots, 10 of which were shots-on-goal, throughout the contest. Iowa only attempted two shots during Friday’s battle of ranked squads.

The Hawkeyes earned the No. 7 seed and will face No. 2 Maryland in the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, Nov. 7, at 2 p.m. ET at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex in College Park, Maryland.
