Hawkeyes Host Trailblazer Duals

IOWA CITY, Iowa — The University of Iowa women’s wrestling team will host the Trailblazer Duals at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, facing off against Cornell College at 1:30 p.m. followed by a dual versus William Jewell at 2 p.m.

Cornell College is in its third season of competition and holds an 0-1 all-time record in dual competition. They are set to face No. 18 Wartburg on Wednesday evening this week. So far this season, the Rams have competed at the Luther Hill and the Luther Open.

William Jewell is ranked No. 21 in the NWCA preseason poll. The Cardinals have started the season 1-1 with a win over Texas Woman’s University and a loss to No. 7 Colorado Mesa. The Cardinals have two ranked wrestlers, No. 10 Emily Mendez at 110 lbs. and No. 5 Alex Waitsman at 124 lbs. William Jewell returns both of their national tournament qualifiers from last season in Waitsman and Athena Wilden.

Iowa broke the attendance record for a college women’s wrestling event during last season’s Trailblazer Duals as 8,207 fans filled into Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
