IOWA CITY, Iowa – Two members of the University of Iowa women’s soccer team – sophomore Sofia Bush and graduate Maggie Johnston – earned United Soccer Coaches All-North Region honors, it was announced Wednesday by United Soccer Coaches.
Bush earned third-team honors, while Johnston was a fourth-team selection. The pair of Hawkeyes become the 13th and 14th players to earn all-region honors. Bush is the ninth third-team selection and the first since a trio of Hawkeyes were named to the third team in 2021. Johnston is the first Hawkeye to receive fourth team honors.
Bush scored five goals and had four assists during the 2024 season and she ranked third on the team with 14 points. The Marion, Iowa, native earned third-team All-Big Ten honors and she was rated 17th on Top Drawer Soccer’s Midseason Top 100. She was one of five player to start all 22 games.
Johnston, a team captain, finished her final Hawkeye season with three goals and one assist. The Corona, California, native earned second-team All-Big Ten honors after being a key piece of a Hawkeye defense that allowed just 12 goals, the fewest in program history. Johnston started 19 games on the year.
Iowa finished the 2024 season with a 15-3-4 record and went 8-2-1 in Big Ten play. The Hawkeyes earned an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and the team advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time in program history.
