MADISON, Wisconsin – The second-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team shutout Wisconsin, 45-0, on Sunday afternoon at the UW Field House. The Hawkeyes improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in Big Ten competition.

“Lot of bonus points,” said head coach Tom Brands. “A shutout, so 10-of-10 in matches. We have Illinois in five days, don’t want to downplay this but we do have to get ready. It’s going quick now.”
The Hawkeyes got the action started with a pair of ranked wins. At 125 pounds Joey Cruz defeated 18th ranked Nicolar Rivera, 8-2. At 133 pounds, Drake Ayala added a technical fall over No. 24 Zan Fuggit scoring 21 points in 6:08.

“I liked the first period,” said Rhodes. “I gave up the reversal, not exactly ideal. That guy is good on top, putting in the legs. Overall, it was a gutsy win, and I am glad I could pull it out, and keep giving myself more opportunities to go out there and win.
At 157, true freshman Miguel Estrada got win, 10-4, over Luke Mechler and sent the Hawkeyes to the intermission leading 19-0.
Iowa came out firing after the break, winning the next four matches before the clock expired. The Hawkeyes needed only 15 minutes and three seconds of wrestling time to close out the dual.

“It was good to be back home,” said Buchanan. “Had a lot of people come out, so that was nice seeing them in the crowd. I didn’t really know how many people had come down, but it was nice talking to them afterwards.”
