IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa gymnast Aurèlie Tran has been named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week. It was announced Tuesday by the conference. The honor is Tran’s first of the season and her career.
The Repentigny, Quebec, Canada, native earned the distinction after competing in the all-around in Iowa’s season opener at Iowa State. She brought home the event titles on bars and the all-around against Iowa State and Brown. The Hawkeyes took second at the Iowa State Tri-Meet scoring a 194.575.
Tran made her collegiate debut by anchoring the GymHawks on bars and scored a 9.850 and capturing the event title. In the all-around Tran finished on top with a 39.050. She also contributed a 9.675 on vault, 9.775 on beam and 9.750 on floor to the team score.
This is the fifth straight season that the GymHawks have a had a Big Ten Freshmen of the Week honoree.
The GymHawks will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 18. Action inside of Covelli Center will begin at 3:00 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
