The nationally-ranked University of Iowa women’s basketball team fell to Illinois, 62-57, on Thursday night inside the State Farm Center.

CHAMPAIGN, Illinois – The nationally-ranked University of Iowa women’s basketball team fell to Illinois, 62-57, on Thursday night inside the State Farm Center.
 
There were five lead changes and three ties in the Big Ten Matchup. Junior Hannah Stuelke led the Hawkeyes with 18 points and 13 rebounds to record her seventh career double-double, while senior Lucy Olsen followed with 16 points and two threes. Junior Taylor McCabe also hit two threes for the Hawkeyes.
 
It was a back-and-forth matchup between the Hawkeyes and the Illini in the first quarter. Iowa had control at the beginning of the game, with Olsen leading the team with six points. Illinois went on a 10-0 run late in the quarter to tie the game at 16.
 
In the second quarter, Iowa held their lead, and Olsen and Stuelke each contributed four points for the Hawkeyes to stay in control. However, Illinois responded with a late, 7-0 run to close out the first half, narrowing the Hawkeyes' lead to two, 29-27, going into halftime. Iowa also dominated the boards, securing 20 rebounds in the half.
 
Illinois took the narrow, 46-45 lead in the third quarter. The Illini held at most a two-possession lead through the entirety of the quarter. Junior Taylor McCabe hit a late three in the quarter to help bring the Hawkeyes within one going into the final stretch.
 
In the fourth quarter, Illinois managed to maintain their narrow lead despite Iowa's efforts to close the gap. Illinois' Kendall Bostic and Genesis Bryant made significant contributions, with Bostic scoring a total of 17 points and Bryant adding 12 points with two threes. Despite a late push from Iowa, including a three-pointer from Taylor McCabe, Illinois secured the victory with a final score of 62-57.

- Aaliyah Guyton made her first career start as a Hawkeye.
