Iowa Downs Memphis For 4th Win

Memphis, Tenn. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team secured a 4-2 victory over Memphis on Friday night at the Leftwich Tennis Center, improving its record to 4-2 on the season.

Iowa started off strong in doubles play with Tereza Dejnozkova and Nikita Vishwase dominating Leonie Moeller and Emily Meyer with a 6-1 win on court one. Memphis responded with a 6-2 win at the No. 2 spot before the Hawkeyes got a clinching win on court three with Daianne Hayashida and Pia Kranholdt earning a solid 6-2 win over Clemence Thouard and Alice Amendola.

Singles action began with Marisa Schmidt’s convincing 6-2, 6-2 win over Emily Meyer on court three. Memphis responded as Leonie Moeller handed No. 76 Dejnozkova a 6-3, 6-3 loss on court one.

Pia Kranholdt followed with a 7-6, 6-2 win over Clemence Thouard at No. 6, giving Iowa a 3-1 lead. Memphis added its second point with Sofia Mykhaliets’ 7-6, 7-5 win over No. 113 Dianne Hayashida at the No. 2 line.

Barbora Pokorna clinched Iowa’s victory with a tight 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-2 victory over Alyssa Richter on court four.   The win moved Pokorna’s record to 6-0 this spring.

The Hawkeyes will head to Oxford to face Ole Miss for a dual match Sunday at 10 a.m. (CT).
