Erb Named B1G Co-Specialist of the Week

University of Iowa gymnast Emily Erb has been named the Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week. It was announced Tuesday by the conference. Erb shares the honor with Frida Esparza from UCLA. The honor is Erb's first of the season and her career.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa gymnast Emily Erb has been named the Big Ten Co-Specialist of the Week. It was announced Tuesday by the conference. Erb shares the honor with Frida Esparza from UCLA. The honor is Erb's first of the season and her career. 

The Flemington, N.J., native earned the distinction after competing on floor at the Zou to the Lou Quad Meet and in a home meet against Illinois this past weekend. At the Zou to the Lou Quad Meet on Friday evening, Erb matched her season-high on floor scoring a 9.925. She helped the GymHawks post a season-high 49.275 on floor, which was passed on Sunday against Illinois. 

Against Illinois on Sunday, she had a show stopping routine to close out the meet scoring a career-high 9.975, tying the program record on the event, and taking home the event title. She was one of four GymHawks to score a 9.900 or above at the meet on floor, helping Iowa to a season-high 49.375 on the event. 

This is the the third Big Ten weekly honor for the Hawkeyes this season and the first specialist of the week honor since 2023. 

The GymHawks will travel to College Park, MD, to face Maryland on Friday, Feb. 21. Action inside of XFINITY Center will begin at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed on B1G+.
