IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s wrestler, Cali Leng has been named the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Region VII Co-Wrestler of the Month for January, as announced Tuesday by the organization. Leng shares the honor with Kylie Rule of Wartburg.
In the month of January, Leng went 8-1 with two technical falls and one pin. Her only loss of the month was a, 6-3, decision to third-ranked Shelby Moore. Leng picked up three ranked wins in the month over No. 4 Aspen Blasko, No. 5 Alyssa Mahan and No. 7 Janessa George. Her win over Alyssa Mahan was a dominating, 12-2, tech. fall.
The Marysville, Ohio, native is ranked fifth at 124 pounds. She helped the Hawkeyes to their second straight NWCA National Duals title at the beginning of the month picking up a win in the championship dual against North Central College.
The Hawkeyes will compete in the NCWWC Region VII Championships on Saturday Feb. 22 at Simpson College. Action inside of the Cowles Fieldhouse will begin at 10 am CT.
