Iowa Completes Exhibition at Clemson with No. 16 Indiana

Iowa rowing finished exhibition at Clemson University on March 22. The team raced against Clemson and No. 16 Indiana on Lake Hartwell.

CLEMSON, S.C. – The University of Iowa rowing team finished their exhibition against Clemson and No. 16 Indiana on Lake Hartwell Saturday afternoon.

The invite consisted of all Big Ten racing classes, 1-4 Varsity eights and 1-3 Varsity fours. The teams competed in four by 1500meter pieces, capped at a 32-stroke rate. The Hawkeyes are poised to enter the racing season with strength and a competitive drive.

HEAR FROM HEAD COACH JEFF GARBUTT
“Our spring training trip allowed us to race against some fast boats, giving our women a benchmark of where we need to be. Starting the trip at Lake Lanier, was special for our rowers as it gave them a glimpse of what racing at the highest level can look like. It was also great to get to work on a straight, buoyed course. Thank you to Clemson for hosting us and Indiana Saturday, at Lake Hartwell, where our women came ready to race. This week we came away with a renewed focus on trusting the process and taking care of the little things. Each week is a learning opportunity on maximizing speed as we ramp up for the Big Ten Championship.”

“I am so incredibly proud of the body of work the team has done this week. We took care of business both in races and at training camp. I cannot wait to keep up the grind and see how far this team can grow between now and May. It’s a great day to be a Hawkeye!”

Senior Lily Beardsley
“It was really exciting to get out there and race at some high rates. Our whole team showed grit today and we are excited to build off it for the rest of the season!”

Senior Haley Reeves
“Today was a great day to show all the work we’ve put in indoors these past few months and get the opportunity to race again. Across the board we had some promising results and are excited to build off this weekend moving forward. Go Hawks!”
