IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team will host South Dakota State, for a midweek non-conference matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Pearl Field. The Hawkeyes will play a doubleheader with games at 2:30pm and 4:30pm CT.
The Hawkeyes enter the contest with a 19-9 record and the Jackrabbits come into the contest with a 15-5 record. South Dakota State enters the matchup after a ten day break in their schedule, and Iowa comes in after splitting its two game series against No. 5/6 UCLA this past weekend. Iowa leads the all-time series against the Jackrabbits,11-3, the most recent meeting between the teams was in May 2023, with Iowa winning, 6-3.
As a team, South Dakota State is hitting .301 and its pitching staff has a 4.57 ERA. They are led by Sophomore Abby Gentry with a .438 batting average, 35 hits and 30 RBIs. Freshman Tayler Baker has the most starts with 13, and holds a 4.11 ERA with a 4-3 record.
Overall, the Hawkeyes are hitting .283 as a team. The Iowa pitching staff has a 3.60 ERA. Sophomore Soo-Jin Berry leads the team with a .369 batting average and seven home runs. Junior Jalen Adams has thrown 95.1 innings for the Hawkeyes and has a 1.98 ERA, third in the Big Ten and 32nd nationally.
