Tjoa Finishes t9, Hawkeyes 14th at Bulls Bay

The Iowa men’s golf team wrapped up play at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Tuesday.

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The University of Iowa men’s golf team wrapped up play at The Hootie at Bulls Bay Golf Club on Tuesday. The Hawkeyes finishing in 14th place after a final team score of five-over-par 869.

Junior Max Tjoa led the Hawkeyes with a career-best five-under-par 67, securing a top-10 finish tied for ninth place at a personal-best 8-under 208 for the tournament. Tjoa recorded six birdies in his final round, including four on the front nine.

Sophomore Gage Messingham shot a three-over-par 75, finishing the event at three-over overall and tied for 35th.

Senior Ian Meyer posted a one-over-par 73, finishing tied for 54th at two-over overall. Meyer recorded three birdies on the front nine, making the turn at one-under for the day.

Freshman Ryan Shellberg posted a seven-over-par 79 in his final round, placing 82nd.

Iowa finished 17-under with a 4.75 stroke average on par 5s, while also shooting 4-under with an average of 3.96 strokes per hole on par 4s. The Hawkeyes edged out Western Carolina by five strokes in the final standings.

"Today was a breakthrough round for Max. He was +1 through six, battled back and finished the round strong. I couldn’t be happier for him, it’s much deserved. As for the team, I’m disappointed how things ended. We started the day a man down, playing four counting four, but we knew the situation. Everyone was mentally prepared to do their job, but we fell short. We were near the bottoms in par threes and par fives scoring for the week.”

UP NEXT

The Hawkeyes will travel to Naples, Florida to host the Calusa Cup. The 54-hole tournament will tee off on April 6th and conclude on April 8th.
