The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a final round 296 on Tuesday to finish in sixth place at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve at Saddlebrooke. The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 897 (290-311-296).

TUCSON, Ariz. – The University of Iowa women’s golf team fired a final round 296 on Tuesday to finish in sixth place at the MountainView Collegiate at The Preserve at Saddlebrooke.  The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 897 (290-311-296).

The finish was Iowa’s second top 10 showing of the season and its highest finish of the spring season.

The Hawkeyes had two golfers -- senior Paula Miranda and sophomore Ximena Benites -- both finish under par on Tuesday.

Miranda used four birdies to post the two-under par 70 -- her best round of the weekend and tied for her best of the season.  Benites carded five birdies en route to her second round 70.  It was her second round at or below par for the tournament.

The duo moved up 22 spots on the final leader board, finishing in a tie for 11th place with a 221 total.   It was Benites’ team-best fourth top 20 finish of the season and Miranda’s third showing in the top 20.

Kansas State took home the team title with an 868 (290-295-283), 10 shots better than second-place Arizona.  The Wildcats’ Carla Bernat was the individual medalist, firing an 11-under par 205.
