IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa track and field’s Duke Faley was named the Big Ten Men’s Co-Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Wednesday.
The redshirt freshman from Dubuque, Iowa, set a personal best in the men’s discus at the Jim Duncan Invitational in Des Moines last weekend. Faley launched a 54.75-meter throw to secure the event title.
This is the Hawkeyes’ second freshman of the week honor this outdoor season. Teammate and fellow thrower Bryce Ruland secured the Men’s Freshman of the Week honor March 26 after a standout performance in the men’s discus at the UCF Black and Gold Invitational in Orlando, Florida.
Faley shares the honor with Nikolaos Sidirenois from Indiana University.
The Hawkeyes are back in action, traveling across the map this weekend competing in the Bryan Clay Invitational, Mt. Sac Relays, Kansas Relays, Tom Jones Invitational, and Beach Invitational.
