2025 Gymnastics Final Notes

The Hawkeyes finished the 2025 season ranked 26th in the nation with a national qualifying score (NQS) of 196.430. Iowa finished in fifth-place at Big Ten Championships and the regular season after being picked to finish 10th in the preseason.

FINAL RANKINGS

• The Hawkeyes finished the 2025 season ranked 26th in the nation with a national qualifying score (NQS) of 196.430.

• Iowa finished in fifth-place at Big Ten Championships and the regular season after being picked to finish 10th in the preseason.

• The GymHawks finished the season ranked 19th nationally on beam, 23rd on vault and floor and 31st on bars.

• Five Hawkeyes rank in the top-25 on an event in the Big Ten to end the season. Karina Muñoz ranks 10th on vault, Emily Erb ranks 7th on floor, Adeline Kenlin ranks 17th on beam, and Aurélie Tran ranks 7th in the all-around, 17th on beam and 25th on bars.

2025 KEY NOTES

• Iowa finished the season with a 9-9 record, 5-4 in the Big Ten.

• The GymHawks broke 197.00 for the first time since 2021 against Iowa State posting a 197.025, the fourth highest score in program history

• Against Iowa State, the Hawkeyes scored a 49.425 on bars, tying the program’s second highest score in program history on the event.

• Iowa posted a season-high 49.275 against Iowa State, where all six athletes scored 9.800 or higher with Tran posting a career-high 9.950, tying for second in program history.

• Iowa posted a season-high 49.375 on floor against Illinois, where four gymnasts scored a 9.900 or higher in the rotation and Erb tied the program record scoring a 9.975

• Seven Hawkeyes competed in all 11 regular season meets.

• All seven of the above competed at Big Ten Championships, and all but Erb competed at NCAA Regionals

25 AND COUNTING

• The GymHawks were one of 36 teams to qualify for NCAA Regionals where they were selected to the Tuscaloosa Regional.

• This marked the 25th consecutive season with an NCAA Regional appearance for Iowa (as a team or individuals).

• Iowa competed in the Tuscaloosa Regional against No. 6 Cal, No. 11 Alabama and North Carolina.

• The GymHawks scored a 196.00 and took fourth place behind No. 6 Cal (197.550), No. 11 Alabama (197.275) and North Carolina (196.250).

• Freshman Aurélie Tran led the way for the Hawkeyes, scoring a 39.275 in the all-around, while junior Karina Muñoz posted a 38.500.

• Fifth-year Adeline Kenlin tied for second place on beam with scoring a 9.900.

FRESHMAN PHENOM

• Freshman Aurélie Tran competed in every meet this season in the all-around.

• She earned First Team All-Big Ten and All-Freshman team honors

• Tran has earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors three this season (1/14, 1/28 and 3/18).

• Tran won 15 event titles this season. She was the only GymHawk to compete in the all-around in every meet, where she brought home four event titles.

• She finished the season ranked on the top-35 in the Big Ten on every event; 31st on vault, 5th on beam, 17th on beam, 25th on floor and 7th in the all-around

• Tran closed the season ranked 25th nationally on bars and 30th in the all-around

• Tran scored a 9.900 or higher eight times in the 2025 season.

WCGA ASSISTANT COACHES OF THE YEAR

• Assistant coaches Craig Ballard, Brenna Brooks and Kyle Grable were named Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Assistant Coaches of the Year for the North Central Region.

• All in their first season at Iowa, the coaching staff hit the ground running bringing success immediately for the GymHawks. Ballard oversaw vault and floor, Brooks oversaw beam and Grable on bars.

• After being picked to finish 10th in the preseason poll, the GymHawks took fifth in the regular season and at Big Ten Championships

B1G AWARDS

• Tran was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week three times during the 2025 season (1/14, 1/28 and 3/18).

• Erb was named Big Ten Specialist of the Week (2/18) after tying the program record on floor.

• Tran earned first team all-Big Ten and all-freshman honors at the end of the season

• Tran and Tyson were named to the 2025 Big Ten all-championships team for bars and floor, respectively.

Kaia Vanney was named the team’s Big Ten Sportsmanship honoree.

HAWKEYES IN THE RANKINGS

• Junior Karina Muñoz finished the year ranked 35th nationally and 10th in the Big Ten on vault with and National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 9.875. She ranked 11th in the Big Ten in the all-around with an NQS of 39.180.

• Junior Emily Erb ranked seventh in the Big Ten and 34th nationally on floor with an NQS of 9.910

• Junior Hanna Castillo finished the year ranked 23rd in the Big Ten on floor with an NQS of 9.875.

• Fifth-year Adeline Kenlin wrapped up her collegiate career 17th in the conference on the beam with an NQS of 9.870.

• Freshman Aurélie Tran finished her first collegiate season in the top-25 on four events in the Big Ten with an NQS of 9.870 on beam (17th), 9.905 on bars (5th), 9.865 on floor (25th), and 39.400 in the all-around (7th).

•Tran was ranked 25th on bars and 30th in the all-around in the national ranking.

THE LLEWELLYN ERA

Jen Llewellyn was named the fifth head coach in program history on June 6, 2024

• Coach Llewellyn came to Iowa with 13 years of head coaching experience including multiple postseason appearances.

• Along with a new head coach, the Hawkeyes have a brand new staff that includes Craig Ballard, Brenna Brooks and Kyle Grable.

• Ballard spent the last 13 seasons on staff at Kent State University. Brooks was a student-athlete under Llewellyn at Washington and was an assistant coach in 2024. Grable was on staff at UCLA the past three seasons and was a successful club coach for 15 years prior to that.

  In her first season as head coach, Jen Llewellyn led the Hawkeyes to a fifth-place finish at Big Ten Championships and the regular season after being picked to finish 10th

  The GymHawks started the season ranked 29th in the preseason poll and finished 23rd and qualified for regionals as a team with an NQS of 196.430

  The staff has the program turned around after going 2-7 the previous year, the Hawkeyes went 5-4 in Big Ten competition this season.

GOODBYE CLASS OF 2025

• The Hawkeyes graduate five student-athletes after this season: Alexa Ebeling, Adeline Kenlin, Marissa Rojas and Haley Tyson.

• Ebeling a senior from Adel, Iowa graduated with a degree in Communications Studies. She set career-highs on floor and beam as a junior scoring a 9.875 and 9.800, respectively.

• Juk a senior from Vancouver, Canada is graduating with a degree in Health Studies. She spent two years as a GymHawk after transfering from LIU.  She competed in 25 meets on bars and beam and in 2025 took home two beam titles and had two top-three finishes on bars.

• Kenlin a fifth year from Iowa City graduated with her masters in Sport and Rec Management. She was a two-time all-American for the GymHawks and was the 2022 NCAA runner-up on beam.

• Rojas a senior from Canton, Mich. graduated with a degree in Exercise Science. She did not compete in 2025 due to injury but was a staple in the bars and beam lineup during her first three seasons.

• Tyson a senior from Aurora, Ill. earned a degree in Interdepartmental Studies. She had a breakout season as a senior, competing in every meet and scoring a 9.900 or higher three times.

• Six different athletes wrote their names into the record book this season;
