CB Shahid Barros and QB Jeremy Hecklinski have signed scholarship agreements with the Hawkeyes, it was announced Friday by Moon Family Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

IOWA CITY, Iowa -- Cornerback Shahid Barros and quarterback Jeremy Hecklinski have signed scholarship agreements with the University of Iowa football team, it was announced Friday by Moon Family Head Football Coach Kirk Ferentz.

South Dakota in 2024 -- Appeared in 12 games with 11 starts, after missing the first two games due to injury… made his first appearance/start of the season against Drake… recorded 41 tackles and had three pass break-ups at cornerback… picked up a sack and tackle for loss on a corner blitz in the program’s first-ever road win at Youngstown State… intercepted his lone pass in the second half against Tarleton State in the FCS Second Round… got his redemption in the FCS quarterfinals against UC Davis, after missing the 2023 quarterfinal, by tying his career high with eight tackles against the Aggies.  

South Dakota in 2023 -- Started all 12 games before missing the NCAA quarterfinal contest due to injury… part of a secondary that finished 18th nationally in passing yards allowed… tied for the team lead with two interceptions and was the Coyotes’ seventh-leading tackler with 49 stops… included in the tally was his first collegiate sack and another tackle-for-loss… also tied for the team lead with two forced fumbles and was credited with two pass breakups… had eight tackles in the Coyotes’ upset of then-No. 2 North Dakota State in Fargo… had seven tackles (six solo) in the season-opener at Missouri… forced a fumble on the opening possession of the game versus Youngstown State that led to a field goal… had a first-quarter interception against top-ranked South Dakota State and another in the win against 10th-ranked North Dakota.

South Dakota in 2022 -- Played in the first eight games… started at cornerback in the Valley opener against North Dakota State and logged a season-high five tackles… totaled 10 tackles, including eight solo stops… had a tackle-for-loss in the season opener at Kansas State… logged the fourth-most pass break-ups on the team (4), inclduing two in a game at Illinois State.

South Dakota in 2021 -- Played in four games, which allowed him to redshirt and not use a season of eligibility… one of eight true freshmen to compete for the Coyotes… made his collegiate debut in the Valley opener against Missouri State… credited with a tackle in the win against Western Illinois.

High School Honors -- Two-time Big 3 All-Star for the Whalers, who was named to the Standard-Times Defensive Super Team. High School -- Caught 46 passes his senior year for 836 yards and seven touchdowns... had nine interceptions, including a pick-six on the defensive side of the ball to go with 56 tackles and two forced fumbles... also returned punts and kickoffs... spent a prep year at St. Thomas More School (CT) -- playing for head coach Jason Mason, who is Iowa's current director of player development -- after graduating high school in 2020.

High School -- Led Walton to the state title game while throwing for 3,835 passing yards, 50 touchdowns to just six interceptions, completing 201-of-309 attempts (65 percent) in 14 games while holding a 141.9 passer rating… added 58 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground… helped Walton to a top-10 national ranking according to MaxPreps and the top-ranked team in the state of Georgia in 2023… completed 100-of-166 pass attempts (60.6 percent) for 1,781 yards with 15 scores to just five interceptions as a sophomore… completed 194-of-305 pass attempts (63.6 percent) for 3,520 yards with 37 touchdowns and 12 interceptions, along with 50 carries for 77 yards and five scores… helped lead Walton to nine victories in 2021, 10 wins in 2022 and a 13-1 record on its way to Georgia 7A state championship appearance in 2023.
