The 32nd-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team begins NCAA Tournament play Friday, facing No. 29 Georgia Tech in the first round of the Athens Regional at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The dual will begin at 9 a.m. (CT).

THIS WEEK
The 32nd-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team begins NCAA Tournament play Friday, facing No. 29 Georgia Tech in the first round of the Athens Regional at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. The dual will begin at 9 a.m. (CT).
• With a victory, the Hawkeyes would advance to face the winner of top-seeded Georgia and Florida A&M in the Round of 32.

THE OPPONENTS
• The Yellow Jackets are 13-11 overall and went 6-6 in ACC play.
• Sophomore Scarlett Nicholson was a first-team All-ACC selection after posting a 20-8 overall singles record.
• The series between Iowa and Georgia Tech is tied at three. The Yellow Jackets won the most recent meeting, securing a 5-2 victory in 2011 at the ITA Season Kickoff.

LAST MATCH
The Hawkeyes dropped a 4-1 decision to eighth-seeded Maryland in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament in Ojai, California.

IOWA’S NCAA HISTORY
The Hawkeyes are making their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2010 and the eighth in program history (1999, 2000, 2001, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010). Iowa advanced to the Sweet 16 in its first appearance in 1999 and are 2-6 all-time in the NCAA Tournament.
QUICK HITTERS
• Iowa is 10-1 this spring when opening the match by claiming the doubles points.
Sasha Boros is in her ninth season as Iowa’s head coach. The Iowa alum has guided the Hawkeyes to 102 victories during her eight-year tenure -- the second-most in program history. She has 279 wins as a head coach in stops at Stetson, Missouri and Iowa.

IN THE RANKINGS
Iowa is ranked No. 33 in the April 22 ITA team rankings.
• Junior Daianne Hayashida comes in at No. 110 in the singles rankings, while juniors Tereza Dejnozkova and Nikita Vishwase are 65th in the doubles rankings -- a season high.

DAI: FIRST-TEAM ALL-BIG TEN
Junior Daianne Hayashida earned first-team All-Big Ten honors for the spring season -- her second straight all-league honor. The Peru native has compiled a 13-5 record in singles, playing primarily at the No. 2 singles position. She has won at the No. 1 line in each of the team’s last two duals.
• Hayashida had a team-best seven singles victories during the fall season, posting a 7-3 overall record. She also won four matches, teamming with Marisa Schmidt in doubles. She won the consolation singles title at the ITA Sectionals in Ann Arbor in November.
Hayashida has 52 career singles and 42 career doubles victories.

TESS = SECOND TEAM
Junior Tereza Dejnozkova earned second-team All-Big Ten honors in her first season as a Hawkeye. It was her second straight all-league nod as she earned second-team All-Sun Belt accolades last season at South Alabama.
• Dejnozkova has posted a 14-13 singles and 13-12 doubles record this season, which included a third-place finish at the ITA Central Regionals in October. It was the highest finish by a Hawkeye all-time.
• The Czech Republic native was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on March 19 after posting a 4-0 record in Hawkeye wins over No. 46 Illinois and No. 38 Northwestern. She clinched Iowa’s 4-3 win over Northwestern, the program’s first over the Wildcats in 15 years.
