IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa softball team will host Illinois State, for a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Pearl Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4pm CT.
The Hawkeyes enter the contest with a 22-14 record and the Redbirds come into the contest with a 12-25 record. Illinois State enters the matchup coming off a series loss to Drake, 2-1, but a run rule win in the finale against Drake on Sunday, 15-5 (5 innings). Iowa comes in after dropping its series, 2-1, against No. 20/21 Nebraska this past weekend, also winning its series finale, 5-2. Iowa leads the all-time series against the Redbirds, 32-20, the most recent meeting between the teams was in February 2012 at a neutral site, with Illinois State winning, 7-3.
As a team, Illinois State is hitting .237 and its pitching staff has a 3.57 ERA. They are led by Senior Abby Knight who has a .299 batting average with 35 hits and 11 RBIs. Junior Hannah Meshnick has the most starts in the circle with 15, and holds a 3.07 ERA with a 6-10 record.
Overall, the Hawkeyes are hitting .282 as a team and the pitching staff has a 4.18 ERA. Sophomore Jena Young leads the team with a .387 batting average and 43 hits. Sophmore Soo-Jin Berry is the top run producer with 23 RBIs and eight home runs. Junior Jalen Adams has thrown 122.2 innings for the Hawkeyes and has a 2.40 ERA with 92 strikeouts.
