Senior Paula Miranda fired a season-best three-under par 69 to pace the University of Iowa women’s golf team during the final round of the Veritex Bank Challenge on Tuesday at the Trinity Forest Golf Club.

DALLAS, Texas – Senior Paula Miranda fired a season-best three-under par 69 to pace the University of Iowa women’s golf team during the final round of the Veritex Bank Challenge on Tuesday at the Trinity Forest Golf Club.

Miranda moved up 16 spots to finish in a tie for 11th place with a three-over par 219 (77-73-69).  After opening the day with a bogey, Miranda had four birdies and six pars over her next 10 holes.  She closed out the day with a birdie on the par-four seventh to get to three under.

The 69 matched a Hawkeye team season low and it was Miranda’s eighth round at or below par this season and her first round in the 60s.  She now has five top 20 finishes on the year, which is tied with Ximena Benites for the team high.

Junior Riley Lewis matched her best round of the tournament, finishing Tuesday’s action with a one-over par 73.  She finished in a tie for 24th with a 54-hole total of 223 (73-77-73), matching her best score of the season.

Benites and sophomore Maura Peters both tied for 29th place with 224s.  Benites shot a final round 78, while Peters carded a three-over 75.

The Hawkeyes finished eighth (of 14 teams) in the team standings, finishing with a 54-hole total of 891 (296-299-296).

Houston used a four-under par 284 to surge past Texas Tech to win the team title.  The Cougars finished with a five-over par 869 for the tournament.  Houston’s Moa Svedenskiold won the medalist honor via a tiebreaker, finishing with a six-under par 210.
