Former Hawkeye Ken Grabinski Passes

Ken Grabinski, a member of the 1970 University of Iowa men’s basketball Big Ten regular season championship team, passed away suddenly on June 4. He was 75.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – Ken Grabinski, a member of the 1970 University of Iowa men’s basketball Big Ten regular season championship team, passed away suddenly on June 4.  He was 75.

Grabinski was a three-year letterwinner from 1970-72.  He was a starter on the 1971 team, while being a reserve in 1970 and 1972.  During his Hawkeye career, he averaged 4.6 points and 3.3 rebounds in 62 games.

The Clear Lake, Iowa, native helped Iowa to a 20-5 overall record in 1970, which included a perfect 14-0 record in Big Ten play.  The Hawkeyes advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. 

Grabinski was an Academic All-Big Ten selection in 1971.

A celebration of life will be held on July 6 in Iowa City.
