IOWA CITY, Iowa -- With temperatures expecting to climb above 90 degrees, University of Iowa officials are implementing gameday procedures to assist fans attending Saturday’s football game at Kinnick Stadium.
- Fans will be permitted to enter the stadium with one sealed water bottle of any size or one empty refillable water bottle.
- For fans needing a break from the heat, an expanded rest area is available outside the First Aid Station at the southeast corner of the stadium. This space will provide shelter, cool air and hydration.
- Johnson County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency has provided an air-conditioned tent in Krause Family Plaza.
- Johnson County Ambulance Services will stage a UTV in the parking lots pre-game to ensure rapid response and are prepared to reposition an additional ambulance if call volume increases.
- UIHC physicians, nurses and additional medical students from the Carver College of Medicine will be onsite to assist with patients.
In addition, fans are encouraged to plan accordingly and follow recommended guidelines below:
- Increase fluid intake, regardless of your activity level. Focus on non-alcoholic and decaffeinated fluids. Fans are strongly encouraged to begin hydrating several days before game day and consume alcohol responsibly.
- Choose lightweight, loose-fitting clothing to reflect heat and wear sunscreen.
- Wear hats that shade your face such as sun hats, visors, etc.
- Stay in the shade or air-conditioned areas as much as possible.
- Stop immediately if you get dizzy, nauseated, or feel weak. Go into an airconditioned space and drink cool liquids.
- Use a buddy system. Watch others for heat-induced illness, since some people may not realize that they are suffering a potential heat-related illnesses and can become confused, lose consciousness, or experience other medical emergencies.
- If you are experiencing symptoms of heat-related illness, you are encouraged to go home if you are able to do so or seek medical assistance, as applicable.
The Hawkeyes host UMass at 6:40 p.m. The game is sold out and will be televised on BTN and broadcast on the Hawkeye Radio Network.
