IOWA CITY, IowaEmma Dabinett was named an assistant coach of the women’s rowing team on Wednesday, head coach Jeff Garbutt announced. Dabinett finished the last season as a graduate assistant coach for the Rowing team.

“I am thrilled to be able to elevate Emma to full-time status,” said Garbutt. “She brings a wealth of knowledge from her time competing for Great Britain as a junior and U23 athlete. As a former Hawkeye rower, she understands what we are trying to do here at Iowa and will help elevate the program. In her new role as recruiting coordinator, she brings a ton of experience to the table and can tell her unique story on why Iowa is such a special place and opportunity to today and train in the USA. Go Hawks!”

Committed to coaching at the highest level, Dabinett attended the Academy of Future Coaches held by the CRCA. She also coaches at the Marlow Rowing Club, assisting with their summer Learn to Row camps where she teaches technical skills, water safety and responsible behavior to progress into the club rowing program.

Dabinett is an accomplished rower who competed on the Great Britian U23 team, earned three First Team All-Big Ten selections, three Academic All-Big Ten honoree and was named a CRCA All-American in 2023 during her time at Iowa. She was on Iowa’s Varsity Eight for all four seasons where her squad won Big Ten Boat of the Week on three occasions.

“I am so excited to remain apart of a program that gave me so much as an athlete and person," said Dabinett. "Elevating me to the level necessary to compete both collegiately and internationally. I am extremely grateful to have the opportunity to work alongside the same incredible coaches who helped me achieve my goals and can't wait to help the program continue to grow in my new role.”

A Bracknell, England native, Dabinett assists with recruiting international talent, showcasing Iowa as a home away from home. During her time as a student athlete, Dabinett was president of I-Hawks, a multicultural focus group, committed to supporting the unique challenges of athletes transitioning into the University from different countries.

Dabinett earned her bachelor’s degree from Iowa with a degree in Psychology and minor in Criminology. She is currently pursuing her master’s in Sport and Recreation management from the university of Iowa.
