Hawkeyes Complete Day 2 at Notre Dame Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team continued competition at the Notre Dame Invitational on Saturday, competing in singles and doubles matches against Northwestern at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.

In singles action, Nikita Vishwase earned a three-set 6-2, 2-6, 6-1 victory over Mika Dagan Fruchtman, while Eline Bex edged Katya Shepherd Johnson, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5. Emma Tothová fell to Margot Phanthala, 6-3, 6-3, and Pia Kranholdt pushed a third set against Maia Loureiro before falling, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.

In doubles play, Bex and Vishwase defeated Phanthala and Dagan Fruchtman, 6-4, while Kranholdt and Tothová fell to Marelie Raath and Erica Jessel, 6-2.

“It’s always a great time competing against Northwestern,” said head coach Sasha Boros. “These were very competitive matches that are so good for us. Today was a great day of tennis, and I’m happy for Nikita and Eline to both go 2-0 on the day. We’re looking forward to our final matches of the fall season tomorrow versus Notre Dame.”

The Hawkeyes will conclude competition tomorrow.
