IOWA CITY, Iowa — University of Iowa student-athletes Millie Greer (women’s soccer) and Mark Gronowski (football) were named October’s Student-Athletes of the Month, the Iowa Student-Athlete Advisory Committee announced on Thursday.

Greer, a junior defender from Scottsdale, Arizona, anchored Iowa’s defense throughout the month of October where the Hawkeyes went 3-2-1 and clinched the No. 4 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. She played the full 90 minutes in five of six matches, helping the team post two shutouts during the month. Greer also made her mark offensively, scoring her third goal of the season in Iowa’s 2-0 regular-season finale victory over Indiana. Greer was a pivotal part in the Hawkeyes' historic 5-3 win over No. 18 Michigan State, marking the most goals ever scored by the Hawkeyes against a ranked opponent.

Gronowski, a graduate student quarterback from Naperville, Illinois, led the Hawkeye football team to a perfect 3-0 record during the month of October, recording wins over Wisconsin, Penn State and Minnesota by an average margin of 25.3 points. With dominant performances, Gronowski helped Iowa secure both the Heartland Trophy and Floyd of Rosedale, with a 37-0 shutout victory over Wisconsin and a 41-3 win against Minnesota. The shutout against the Badgers was the first by the Hawkeyes in Madison since 1929. Gronowski led the team with four rushing touchdowns and added 310 passing yards during the month. He rushed for at least one score in each of Iowa’s first eight games, setting a Big Ten record for most consecutive games with a rushing touchdown by a quarterback. Through eight games, Gronowski has rushed for 11 touchdowns, tying Wilburn Hollis for the most by a Hawkeye quarterback in program history.

The Hawkeye football team returns to action this weekend against No. 9 Oregon with kickoff set for 2:40 pm.
