Hawkeyes Add 2 Transfers

The University of Iowa women’s soccer team signed two transfers – Kylie Cino and Julia Freed – head coach Dave DiIanni announced on Monday.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team signed two transfers – Kylie Cino and Julia Freed – head coach Dave DiIanni announced on Monday.

“When looking at this transfer portal window, it was important for us to target student-athletes that have the same expectations and standards that are aligned with our Iowa soccer program,” said DiIanni. “Kylie and Julia make us immediately better and more competitive as people and talented soccer players, especially in the middle part of the field. They raise the level of our team’s athleticism and are hungry to continue building their talents with a growth minded process every day.”

Kylie Cino joins the Hawkeyes after spending her first two seasons at the University of South Carolina. In her sophomore campaign she appeared in 19 games earning seven starts and totaling two assists. In her freshman season Cino appeared in 20 games finishing with one goal and 544 minutes on the season.

The Mount Pleasant, S.C. native attended Wando High School where she finished with 123 goals to go along with 107 assists. Cino was a two-time captain while winning three State Championships. She was a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year nominee, three-time All-State and All-Region selection, and the 2023 High School S.C. Player of the Year.

Julia Freed spent her first two seasons at Bemidji State University. As a freshman in 2023, Freed started in all 23 games as a defender helping BSU to 12 shutouts. Freed would redshirt in 2024 before having a stellar redshirt sophomore season. In 2025, Freed appeared in all 21 games, playing 90+ minutes in 16 games, averaging 84 minutes per game. The Beavers posted 12 shutouts in 2025 as they finished the year 14-3-4. The Roseville, Minn. native earned United Soccer Coaches All-Central Region Third Team, All-NSIC Second Team, NSIC Fall All-Academic Team of Excellence, and CSC Academic All-District in 2025.

Freed attended Roseville Area High School where she was a four-year letterwinner. She helped her club team, NOSC Blast Girls Sahara, win nationals two years in a row. Freed also participated in track where she qualified for the state tournament in the four-by-four and four-by-eight.
