IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa senior Bennett Stirtz has been named a Sporting News Third-Team Midseason All-American, it was announced Wednesday by the publication.
The Liberty, Missouri, native has also been named to the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and he was an honorable mention midseason All-American by Jon Rothstein.
Stirtz has been in double figures in 14 games with a team-high seven 20-point contests this season. He scored 20+ points in three straight games against UMass Lowell, UCLA and Minnesota.
On the year, Stirtz is averaging 17.6 points, 5.1 assists, 2.4 rebounds and 1.6 steals in leading the Hawkeyes to a 12-4 start. He ranks in the top seven in the Big Ten in points, assists and steals.
Stirtz is the only player in the Big Ten Conference this season to have 280+ points and 80+ assists this season and he is one of two players nationally with 280+ points, 80+ assists, 35+ 3s, 35+ rebounds and 25+ steals.
The Hawkeyes return to action tonight, facing No. 5 Purdue at 5:30 p.m. (CT) inside Mackey Arena in West Lafayette, Indiana. The game will be televised on BTN.
