IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 10 Iowa (18-2, 9-0) defeated No. 12 Ohio State (18-3, 7-2) on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 91-70. The Hawkeyes snapped the Buckeyes’ seven-game winning streak.
Three different Hawkeyes dominated for Iowa. Freshman Addie Deal and sophomore Ava Heiden combined for 38 points. Deal cashed a career-high 20 of those herself, adding five assists, and three rebounds. Senior Hannah Stuelke had herself a day as well, notching her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds.
The Buckeyes came out to a hot 8-2 start, but Iowa responded quickly. Deal’s second contested step back bucket of the day propelled a 12-0 run for Iowa. Deal went 4-for-4 in the quarter with eight points, two rebounds, and an assist. Iowa got it done in the paint, scoring 14 points. The Hawkeyes closed out the first quarter, up 24-14.
Kylie Feuerbach got the scoring started in the second quarter with back-to-back three pointers. Five different Hawkeyes contributed to the 24-quarter points, including five, three-point baskets. Iowa’s defense remained resilient keeping the Buckeyes to just 25 percent shooting behind the arc and brought down 17 rebounds as a team. The Hawkeyes headed to the locker room with a 48-32 lead.
Out of the half, Iowa pushed the pace, scoring their first 12 points in the paint. Iowa shot 58.8 percent from the field in the quarter. Stuelke recorded four more rebounds in the quarter to secure her double-double. The Hawkeyes continued to dominate, closing out the third quarter up, 71-51.
Both teams were able to limit each other's shots in the fourth quarter; however, Heiden recorded one rebound and went 4-for-4 in the paint to keep Iowa’s momentum going. Sophomore Chit-Chat Wright cashed three late baskets for eight points of her own to push her scoring to 14 on the day. The Hawkeyes finished a collective victory over the Buckeyes, 91-70.
