Hawkeyes Overpower #12 Ohio State

IOWA CITY, Iowa - No. 10 Iowa (18-2, 9-0) defeated No. 12 Ohio State (18-3, 7-2) on Sunday afternoon inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, 91-70. The Hawkeyes snapped the Buckeyes’ seven-game winning streak. 
 
Three different Hawkeyes dominated for Iowa. Freshman Addie Deal and sophomore Ava Heiden combined for 38 points. Deal cashed a career-high 20 of those herself, adding five assists, and three rebounds. Senior Hannah Stuelke had herself a day as well, notching her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 14 rebounds.  

The Buckeyes came out to a hot 8-2 start, but Iowa responded quickly. Deal’s second contested step back bucket of the day propelled a 12-0 run for Iowa. Deal went 4-for-4 in the quarter with eight points, two rebounds, and an assist. Iowa got it done in the paint, scoring 14 points. The Hawkeyes closed out the first quarter, up 24-14.  

Kylie Feuerbach got the scoring started in the second quarter with back-to-back three pointers. Five different Hawkeyes contributed to the 24-quarter points, including five, three-point baskets. Iowa’s defense remained resilient keeping the Buckeyes to just 25 percent shooting behind the arc and brought down 17 rebounds as a team. The Hawkeyes headed to the locker room with a 48-32 lead.  

Out of the half, Iowa pushed the pace, scoring their first 12 points in the paint. Iowa shot 58.8 percent from the field in the quarter. Stuelke recorded four more rebounds in the quarter to secure her double-double. The Hawkeyes continued to dominate, closing out the third quarter up, 71-51. 

Both teams were able to limit each other's shots in the fourth quarter; however, Heiden recorded one rebound and went 4-for-4 in the paint to keep Iowa’s momentum going. Sophomore Chit-Chat Wright cashed three late baskets for eight points of her own to push her scoring to 14 on the day. The Hawkeyes finished a collective victory over the Buckeyes, 91-70.  

INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Hannah Stuelke registered her second consecutive double-double with 18 points (8-13 FG) and 15 rebounds. 
- Addie Deal added 20 points, five assists, and three rebounds.
- Deal’s point and assist totals are both career-bests. 
- Deal’s 20 points are the most by a Hawkeye freshman against a Big Ten team since Caitlin Clark did in 2021. Deal bested her 18-point total against Michigan State last Sunday.
- Kylie Feuerbach recorded eight points, tied a career-high with eight assists, and two rebounds.
- Second game this year with six or more assists for Feuerbach. (at Rutgers, 8)
- Stuelke has registered at least 10+ points and 5+ rebounds in 14 of Iowa’s last 16 games.
- Stuelke extended her streak of eight or more rebounds to five straight games. 
- Ava Heiden notched 18 points (9-11 FG), eight rebounds, and four steals.
- Heiden has reached double figures in eight straight games and against all nine Big Ten opponents.
- Stuelke has registered a double-double in the three out of the last five games. 
- Chit-Chat Wright added 14 points (4-6 3FG), five rebounds, and four assists. 
- Wright has recorded 10+ points and 3+ assists in eight out of the last nine games.

TEAM NOTES
- Iowa extended their win streak to eight games. 
- For the first time in program history, the Hawkeyes have beaten three AP Top 25 teams in three consecutive regular season games. 
- Iowa’s 9-0 start to Big Ten action ties for the best start since 1995-96 when the Hawkeyes began league play, 12-0.
- Jan Jensen’s Hawkeyes improved to 8-8 against AP Top 25 teams over the past two seasons. 
- Iowa is 5-2 against AP Top 25 foes this season. 
- The Hawkeyes have now won four out of the last seven matchups with the Buckeyes. 
- Hawkeyes improved to 21-1 when scoring 80+ points in the Jensen era.
