3 Hawkeyes Place at Loras Open

DUBUQUE, Iowa — Three University of Iowa wrestlers finished on the podium on Saturday at the Loras Open, led by a runner-up finish from Joseph Kennedy at 165 pounds.

Kennedy opened the tournament with a 16-4 major decision over Allen Catour of Loras before pinning Ryder Koenig (unattached) at 5:31. He followed with a 13-5 major decision against Hansel Pompa of Grandview and a 4-1 sudden-victory win over Braylon Griffiths of Loras to reach the final. Kennedy dropped an 8-2 decision to Northern Illinois’ Colin Young in the championship match.

Isaiah Fenton placed third at 165 pounds. Fenton began his day with a 7-0 decision over Kaleb Cordova of Grandview and a 17-5 major decision against Reily Dolan of Upper Iowa. After a 4-1 sudden-victory loss to Young, Fenton advanced through the consolation bracket with medical forfeits over Aiden Cartwright and Braylon Griffiths of Loras.

Leister Bowling IV earned a third-place finish at 174 pounds. Bowling recorded an 18-0 technical fall over Peyton Lee of Grandview and a sudden-victory decision against Wisconsin’s David Mitrovich. After an 11-9 loss to Damarcus Powe of Iowa Central, Bowling closed the tournament with wins over Lucas Henderson of Upper Iowa, 4-1, and Xayvion Anderson of Grandview, 6-4.
