Hayashida Named Big Ten Player to Watch

University of Iowa women’s tennis senior Daianne Hayashida has been named a Big Ten Player to Watch for the 2026 spring season, it was announced Monday by the league office.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa women’s tennis senior Daianne Hayashida has been named a Big Ten Player to Watch for the 2026 spring season, it was announced Monday by the league office.

The Lima, Peru, native is a two-time first-team All-Big Ten selection, earning the distinction during her sophomore and junior seasons.  Last season, Hayashida was ranked as high as No. 89 in the ITA singles poll as she won a team-best 20 matches during the season.

She finished the year with a 20-9 overall record in singles, going 3-3 at the No. 1 line and 10-3 at the No. 2 position, while winning 15 doubles matches, including nine at the two line.  Her performance helped Iowa win 13 matches and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2010.

As a sophomore, Hayashida was Iowa’s No. 1 singles player throughout the season, posting a 16-10 singles record to go along with 13 doubles victories.  She ranked as high as No. 85 nationally in singles and No. 66 in doubles before finishing the year at No. 86 in doubles.

During the 2025 fall season, Hayashida won a team-best five singles and five doubles matchups.  She advanced to the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships.

The Hawkeyes open the 2026 season Jan. 17, traveling to South Carolina for a road dual at Furman.
