Hawkeyes Fall to Wichita State, 4-2

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa women’s tennis team dropped a 4-2 decision to Wichita State on Sunday afternoon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.

The Shockers took an early lead by securing the doubles point. At No. 3, Anne Knuettel and Vichitraporn Vimuktanada defeated Emma Tothová and Nikita Vishwase, 6-1. The Hawkeyes responded with a win on court two, as Tereza Dejnozkova and Pia Kranholdt teamed up to downTheodora Chantava and Kristina Kudryavtseva, 6-2.

Wichita State clinched the doubles point on court one, where No. 24 Giorgia Roselli and Xin Ton Wang edged Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack, 6-4.

In singles action, the Shockers extended their lead to 2-0 on court three, where Chantava defeated Tothová, 6-2, 6-4. The Hawkeyes answered with Mia Mack’s 6-4, 7-5 victory over Wang on court one. At No. 4, Kudryavtseva overcame Dejnozkova, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2. Vishwase added a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win on court six, bringing the Hawkeyes within one point.

Wichita State clinched the match on court five, with Vimuktanada defeating Kranholdt, 4-6, 7-5, 6-0.

The remaining match on court two was left unfinished, with Hayashida leading Roselli, 6-3, 3-6, 5-2.
