Lewis Leads Hawkeyes At Puerto Rico Classic
Rio Grande, Puerto Rico -- The University of Iowa women’s golf team completed the final round at the Puerto Rico Classic on Monday at the Grand Reserve Golf Club. The Hawkeyes finished with a 54-hole total of 869 (286-293-290), placing 12th overall, and placing ahead of Big Ten opponents Minnesota and Michigan, as well as in-state rival Iowa State.
Senior Riley Lewis led the team with an eighth-place finish, the best finish of her career, posting a 54-hole total of 211 (68-69-74). She sank two birdies in Monday’s final round.
Junior Ximena Benites, who recorded a 54-hole total of 215 (71-72-72), moved up five spots on the leaderboard on Monday to finis tied for 29th. She recorded three birdies during her final round. Junior Maura Peters shot a 218 (72-75-71) to tie for 44th place, closing the tournament with two birdies on the final day finishing one-under par. Senior Kaitlyn Hanna posted a total score of 227 (75-79-73), tying for 86th place.
Freshman Sunny Wang rounded out Iowa’s lineup with a final-round 76, finishing tied for 91st.
Arkansas took home the team title, finishing with a 23-under-par 841. North Carolina’s Reagan Southerland (206; 66–67–73), Kansas State’s Jiarui Chen (206; 68–70–68), and Abbey Schutte of Arkansas (206; 65–67–74) tied for first place.
