No. 37 Hawkeyes Fall to No. 32 Texas Tech, 4-2 at Red Blue Invitational

TUCSON, Ariz. – The 37th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team dropped a hard-fought 4-2 decision to No. 32 Texas Tech at the Red Blue Invitational on Saturday night at the Tucson Racquet Club.

The Hawkeyes took an early lead by securing the doubles point. At No. 3, Ella Brownback and Polina Sleptsova defeated Pia Kranholdt and Sally Xu, 6-2. The Hawkeyes responded with Tereza Dejnozkova and Emma Tothová earning a 6-4 victory over Elena Daskalova and Mariia Hlahola on court two. 

The doubles point was clinched on court one with No. 33 Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack edging No. 75 Kate Dmitrichenko and Hailey Murphy, 7-6 (3). 

In singles action, the Red Raiders evened the score at one with Havana Kadi defeating Xu, 6-3, 6-1 on court six. Sleptsova added a 7-5, 6-4 win over Dejnozkova on court three to give Texas Tech the lead.

The Hawkeyes responded on court two, where Hayashida defeated Dmitrichenko, 6-4, 7-5, to tie the meet at two.

Murphy added a 7-6 (4), 6-3 victory over No. 67 Mack on court one. The match was clinched for the Red Raiders on court four, with Andreea Lila defeating Tothová, 3-6, 6-0, 6-4.

The remaining match on court five was left unfinished with the Red Raiders securing its fourth point of the match. Kranholdt was battling Brownback, 2-6, 6-4, 4-4.
