Bernatsky Places 18th In 3-Meter

University of Iowa diver Zita Bernatsky finished 18th in the three-meter springboard finals at day two of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – University of Iowa diver Zita Bernatsky finished 18th in the three-meter springboard finals at day two of the NCAA Zone D Diving Championships at the Student Recreation Natatorium.

The freshman qualified to the finals after placing 16th in the preliminary round with 288.25 points. During the final round, Bernatsky tallied a total of 536.90 points and placed 18th overall. 

“The Hawkeyes battled hard today. I’m proud of our seniors and the leadership they’ve shown not only today, but throughout the season.” diving coach Todd Waikel said. “I’m especially proud of Zita for making the finals as a freshman in an extremely tough contest! Tomorrow is the platform, and the Hawks are ready and poised for a great day."

Bernatsky competed with seniors Lainey Woodward and Geneva Pauly and fellow freshman Kamila Swanson for the Hawkeyes off the three-meter springboard.

After the preliminary round, Woodward finished 32nd with 259.80 points, Pauly placed 38th with 255.05 points and Swanson came in 50th with 219.30 points. 

Up Next: Iowa will round out the last day of competition with the platform dive on Wednesday afternoon. Action will begin with prelims at noon and finals at 2 p.m. (CT). Avram, Bernatsky and Pauly will compete for the Hawkeyes.
