No. 39 Iowa Falls at No. 35 Michigan

The 39th-ranked Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 35 Michigan, 4-0, on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The 39th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 35 Michigan, 4-0, on Sunday at the Varsity Tennis Center.

The Wolverines (6-5, 3-1) opened the match by securing the doubles point. At No. 2, Reese Miller and Laura Rahnel defeated Pia Kranholdt and Emma Tothová, 6-2. On court three, No. 68 Piper Charney and Emily Sartz-Lunde edged Eline Bex and Nikita Vishwase, 6-3.

The match on court one was left unfinished with Michigan securing the point. No. 36 Lily Jones and Jessica Bernales led Tereza Dejnozkova and Mia Mack, 4-3, in a competitive match.

In singles, the Wolverines earned three straight-set victories. No. 123 Miller defeated Tothová, 6-1, 6-1 on court three, while No. 14 Charney claimed a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dejnozkova at No. 2. Sartz-Lunde clinched the Wolverines victory on court four with a 7-6(4), 6-1 win over Vishwase.
 
The three remaining singles matches were left unfinished. On court one, No. 15 Jones led No. 87 Mack, 7-5, 5-2. At No. 5, Jessica Bernales was ahead of Kranholdt, 7-6(3), 5-3, while at No. 6, Sally Xu was rallying against Gabriella Lindgren, 4-6, 5-1.

Iowa (8-7, 2-2) will return to action on March 20 at 5 p.m. (CT), hosting No. 67 Oregon at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
