JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is tied for ninth place out of 15 teams after the opening round of the Briar’s Creek Invitational at The Golf Club at Briar’s Creek. The Hawkeyes carded an 18-hole team total of 295 (+7) on Monday.
Senior Riley Lewis led Iowa in the opening round with a 1-over-par 73, recording two birdies and 13 pars. She is currently tied for 23rd place.
Sophomore Lily Huether and juniors Ximena Benites and Maura Peters each posted a 2-over-par 74 and are tied for 36th place. Benites and Peters each recorded three birdies, while Huether paced the trio with 14 pars.
Boston College leads the team standings with an 18-hole total of 275 (-13). Cynthia Zhang of Boston College sits atop the individual leaderboard after carding a 6-under-par 66 in the opening round.
