SADDLE BROOKE, Ariz. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in fourth place after the first round of the Mountain View Collegiate at The Preserve Golf Club.
The Hawkeyes posted a 3-under-par 285 through 18 holes.
Senior Riley Lewis led Iowa in the opening round, tying her career-best 18-hole score with a 5-under-par 67. Lewis recorded seven birdies and 10 pars and is tied for second place on the individual leaderboard.
Junior Ximena Benites also turned in a strong performance, tying her career-low round with a 3-under-par 69. Benites tallied three birdies and 15 pars, finished bogey-free and sits in sixth place.
Junior Maura Peters carded a 1-over-par 73 with three birdies and 11 pars and is tied for 33rd.
Sophomore Lily Huether and freshman Sunny Wang each recorded a 4-over-par 76 and are tied for 60th.
Iowa State leads the team standings at 15-under-par, while Iowa State’s Alexandra Vidal Rivera holds the individual lead at 8-under.
