No. 41 Iowa Falls to No. 21 Washington

IOWA CITY, IA – The 41st-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team fell to No. 21 Washington, 4-0, on Sunday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex. 

The Huskies (12-1, 3-1) opened the match by securing the doubles point. At No. 2, Alexia Jacobs and Marie Weissheim defeated Tereza Dejnozkova and Sally Xu, 6-1. On court three, Reece Carter and Jermine Sherif edged Eline Bex and Nikita Vishwase, 6-3, to clinch the point.

The remaining match on court one was left unfinished, with Washington clinching the point. No. 28 Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack led No. 46 Erika Matsuda and Carina Syrtveit, 5-4.

In singles action, Iowa took an injury default on court six, extending the Huskies lead to two. On court five, No. 103 Weissheim downed Bex, 6-0, 6-4. At No. 4, Jermine Sherif claimed a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Xu.

The remaining singles matches were left unfinished with Washington clinching its fourth point of the match. On court one, No. 70 Matsuda led Hayashida, 6-2, 5-4, while Dejnozkova was battling No. 64 Carter, 6-3, 4-6 on court two. At No. 3, Vishwase was in a three-set battle with Jacobs, 4-6, 6-4, 0-1.
