IOWA CITY, Iowa – University of Iowa volleyball has hired Mackenzie Martin as an assistant coach and video coordinator, head coach Jim Barnes announced on Monday.

Martin joins the staff after spending one season as an assistant coach at Liberty. The Flames finished 20-10 in 2025. Martin was involved in preparing game plans and scouting reports, while coordinating video setup and uploads to statistic software platforms. She additionally served as the program’s recruiting coordinator.

Martin was an outside hitter that began her career playing for Coach Barnes at Tulane in 2020. After spending three years at Tulane, she transferred to and finished her career at The Citadel. Martin holds single-match program records for digs at both schools. In 2023, Martin helped The Citadel win the SoCon regular season title with a 27-4 record.

“Mackenzie is a tremendous leader on and off the court,” Barnes said. “She will do a terrific job mentoring our players and will be great in recruiting. Mackenzie has always made those around her better because of her connective personality and work ethic. Along with the assistant role, she will coordinate our video and analytics.”
