No. 45 Iowa Downs Northwestern, 4-3

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The 45th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team earned its first Big Ten win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Northwestern on Friday at the Hawkeye Tennis and Recreation Complex.
 
Northwestern opened the match by securing the doubles point. On court two, Neena Feldman and Marelie Raath secured a 6-4 victory over Tereza Dejnozkova and Nikita Vishwase. On court three, Emma Tothová and Pia Kranholdt followed with a 6-3 victory over Mika Dagan Fruchtman and Maia Loureiro. In the deciding match on court one, No. 87 Margot Phathala and Erica Jessel edged No. 25 Daianne Hayashida and Mia Mack, 6-4. 
 
In singles play, Northwestern extended its lead to 2-0 on court three, with Autumn Rabjohns defeating Dejnozkova 6-3, 6-3.
 
Iowa responded with wins on courts four, one, and six. At No. 4, Tothová defeated Loureiro 7-6(4), 6-1. On court one, No. 87 Mack defeated No. 69 Phathala 6-3, 7-5. On court six, Kranholdt Mika Dagan Fruchtman 7-5, 6-2.
 
The Wildcats tied the match at three with Feldman’s 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over Hayashida on court two.
 
The match was clinched on court five, where Vishwase triumphed 7-6(6), 2-6, 6-2 over Raath, securing the win for the Hawkeyes
