COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The University of Iowa softball team fell to Ohio State, 10-2, in six innings Sunday afternoon at Buckeye Field. With the loss, Iowa moves to 14-8 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Ohio State struck first in the opening inning, loading the bases and plating a run on an RBI groundout.
The Hawkeyes answered in the third. Tory Bennett drew a walk and later scored on a Kiara Sipe double to right field to tie the game at 1-1.
The Buckeyes quickly regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning, hitting two home runs to score three runs and take a 4-1 advantage.
Iowa cut into the deficit in the fourth when Leah McAnally launched a solo home run to left field, making it 4-2.
Ohio State responded in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run — its third long ball of the game — to push the lead to 6-2. The Buckeyes sealed the run-rule victory in the sixth, loading the bases with no outs and scoring four runs on an RBI walk, a two-run double and an RBI single.
