Myrtle Beach, S.C. — The University of Iowa women’s golf team finished fifth out of seven teams at the Shootout at Wachesaw, hosted at Wachesaw Plantation Club. The Hawkeyes posted rounds of 301 and 295 for a 36-hole total of 596 (+20).
Sophomore Lily Huether led the Hawkeyes with a 5-over-par 77 in the opening round. Huether bounced back in the second round with a career-low 1-under-par 71, recording two birdies and 15 pars, and finished tied for 14th place with a 36-hole total of 148.
Junior Maura Peters opened with a 3-over-par 75, recording 12 pars and two birdies. Peters followed it up with a 2-over-par 74 in the second round and finished tied for 16th place with a 36-hole total of 149.
Freshman Sunny Wang, competing as an individual, turned in a strong performance, finishing sixth overall. Wang opened with a career-low 2-under-par 70, recording four birdies and 11 pars, before posting an even-par 72 in the second round to finish with a 36-hole total of 142.
No. 18 South Carolina claimed the team title with a 36-hole total of 566. Vairana Heck of South Carolina earned medalist honors with a 7-under-par 137 (68–69).
