WTEN Preview \\ at Minnesota, Wisconsin

The 46th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team hits the road to play its final Big Ten matches of the regular season. The Hawkeyes will face Minnesota on Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) at the Baseline Tennis Center before taking on No. 29 Wisconsin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

THIS WEEK
The 46th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team hits the road to play its final Big Ten matches of the regular season. The Hawkeyes will face Minnesota on Friday at 5 p.m. (CT) at the Baseline Tennis Center before taking on No. 29 Wisconsin on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.

THE OPPONENTS
• Minnesota enters the weekend on a seven-match losing streak. The Golden Gophers are 10-5 overall and 0-11 in Big Ten play.
• Wisconsin has four wins over ranked opponents and holds a 14-6 overall record, including a 7-4 mark in Big Ten play. The Badgers lineup features the No. 21 ranked doubles tandem – Maria Sholokhova and Lucia Urbanova – and two ranked singles players – No. 17 Sholokhova and No. 66 Ekaterina Ivanova.

QUICK HITTERS
• The Hawkeyes added a dual against Northern Iowa on April 21. The two teams will meet at the HTRC at 10 a.m.
• Iowa is currently in a three-way tie for 11th place in the Big Ten standings with a 4-7 league record with two duals remaining. The top 12 teams in the final regular season standings will qualify for the Big Ten Tournament, which will be played next week in Columbus, Ohio.
• Eight of Iowa’s 10 wins this spring have come with the team claiming the doubles point.
• Iowa has two wins over ranked foes this season, downing No. 40 Arizona on Feb. 21 and No. 46 Penn State on April 3.
Sasha Boros is in her 10th season as Iowa’s head coach. The Iowa alum has guided the Hawkeyes to 112 victories-- tied for the most in program history with Micki Schillig. Boros has 289 wins as a head coach in stops at Stetson, Missouri and Iowa.
IN THE RANKINGS
• Iowa is ranked No. 46 in the April 14 ITA team rankings.
• Junior Mia Mack is ranked No. 67 in singles, while Daianne Hayashida and Mack are ranked No. 62 in doubles.

MIA’S STRONG START
Junior Mia Mack has gotten off to a strong start with the Hawkeyes, posting a 15-3 record in singles at the No. 1 and 2 lines and an 8-8 mark at No. 1 doubles.
• The Germany native has five singles wins over nationally ranked opponents and is 3-4 with Daianne Hayashida against ranked doubles foes.
• Mack was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on March 11 after going a combined 3-1 record against ranked opponents in victories over Northwestern and Illinois.
• She opened her Hawkeye career by winning five of six matches during the opening weekend of the spring, going 3-0 in singles at the No. 2 spot and 2-1 in doubles at the No. 1 position. Two of her victories came over ranked opponents.
• Mack made her spring debut at the No. 1 singles position against Wichita State on Feb. 1.

ALL EYES ON DAI
Senior Daianne Hayashida was named to the Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch list for the 2026 season. The Peru native posted a 5-4 record in singles and doubles during the fall.
• Hayashida won a team-best 20 singles matches during the 2025 season, earning her second first-team All-Big Ten honor.
• Hayashida is 6-8 in dual action in singles and 8-8 in doubles, teaming with Mia Mack. She has played at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions in singles and at No. 1 in doubles.
