WTEN Preview \\ at Big Ten Tournament

The 11th-seeded University of Iowa women’s tennis team will face sixth-seeded Wisconsin in the opening round of the 2026 Big Ten Championships on Thursday at the Auer Tennis Complex. The dual will begin at 3:30 p.m. (CT).

THIS WEEK
The 11th-seeded University of Iowa women’s tennis team will face sixth-seeded Wisconsin in the opening round of the 2026 Big Ten Championships on Thursday at the Auer Tennis Complex. The dual will begin at 3:30 p.m. (CT).
• With a victory, the Hawkeyes would advance to face third-seeded Michigan in the Big Ten quarterfinals on Friday.

THE OPPONENT
• The Badgers, ranked 27th in the April 21 ITA team poll, are 16-6 overall and 6-4 in Big Ten play.
• Thursday’s dual will be a rematch from April 19 -- a 4-1 Badger victory in Madison.  Iowa’s lone victory came from senior Nikita Vishwase at the No. 4 singles position.

SASHA IS NO. 1
Iowa’s 4-3 win victory over Minnesota on April 17 gave head coach Sasha Boros her 114th victory as the head Hawkeye.  Boros is now the winningest head coach in program history.
QUICK HITTERS
• Ten of Iowa’s 12 wins this spring have come with the team claiming the doubles point.
• Iowa has two wins over ranked foes this season, downing No. 40 Arizona on Feb. 21 and No. 46 Penn State on April 3.
Sasha Boros is in her 10th season as Iowa’s head coach.  The Iowa alum has guided the Hawkeyes to 114 victories -- the most in program history. Boros has 291 wins as a head coach in stops at Stetson, Missouri and Iowa.

IN THE RANKINGS
• Iowa is ranked No. 46  in the April 21 ITA team rankings.
• Junior Mia Mack is ranked No. 71 in singles, while Daianne Hayashida and Mack are ranked No. 88 in doubles.

NO. 1 MIA
Junior Mia Mack has had a strong first season with the Hawkeyes, posting a 16-4 record in singles at the No. 1 and 2 lines and a 9-9 mark at No. 1 doubles. 
• The Germany native has five singles wins over nationally ranked opponents and is 3-4 with Daianne Hayashida against ranked doubles foes.
• Mack was named the Big Ten Co-Player of the Week on March 11 after going a combined 3-1 record against ranked opponents in victories over Northwestern and Illinois. 
• She opened her Hawkeye career by winning five of six matches during the opening weekend of the spring, going  3-0 in singles at the No. 2 spot and 2-1 in doubles at the No. 1 position.  Two of her victories came over ranked wins.
• Mack made her spring debut at the No. 1 singles position against Wichita State on Feb. 1.

ALL EYES ON DAI
Senior Daianne Hayashida has posted an 8-8 record in dual action in singles and is 9-9 in doubles, teamming with junior Mia Mack. She has played at the No. 1, 2 and 3 positions in singles and at No. 1 doubles. 
• Hayashida was named to the Big Ten Preseason Player to Watch list for the 2026 season.
